Bernshausen Hired at Maintenance Director

Lawn and shower updates are coming to the Don Sjogren Community YMCA this fall under the direction of new maintenance director Justin Bernshausen, who began work at the Y in July.

Justin graduated from Standley Lake High School in Westminster, Colo., and has lived in Minden since 2013. His previous work experience includes maintenance technician at a Marriott Hotel, chief engineer at a Hampton Inn and chief engineer of a dual property of a Residence Inn and an Aloft Hotel.

Justin said he applied for the YMCA job because he wanted a family-oriented position that allows him to spend more time with his seven children: Kodi 14; Justin Jr. 13; Cassie, 12; Alyssa, 10; Emma, 8; Miley, 7; and Spencer, 5. Justin enjoys hunting, fishing, boating, camping and coaching his kids in wrestling and softball.

Justin’s job at the Y involves overseeing facility maintenance and housekeeping, and a renewed effort in building cleanliness will be a high priority.

This fall, Justin will lead the replanting of the YMCA front lawn to bluegrass. The buffalo grass will be removed. A new sprinkler system, which was donated by Green Landscapes, has already been installed. Justin will also oversee repairing shower fixtures and plumbing problems in the locker rooms. Justin also hopes to add a chalkboard wall near Child Watch and to strip and finish the floors throughout the building.
